2.2.Ahistoricalperspectiveonagribusiness

Fromahistoricalperspective,intheearlyphasesofsocialandeconomicdevelopment

foodwasprovidedprimarilybyagriculture.Lateron,newactivitiesaroseinthisprocess,

suchasagri-foodprocessing,trade,servicesandmanufacturing,aswellascraftsmanship

providingthemeansofproductionforagricultureandfoodindustry.Withtime,these

separatistfoodproductionprocessesbegantointegrate,formingmodernagribusiness

encompassingthreesegments:

Insummary,agribusinessisasubsystemofthenationaleconomy,technologically,

financially,legallyandorganizationallylinkingallofthebranchesinvolvedinthepro-

ductionofagriculturalrawmaterials,processinganddistributionoffoodandderivative

products.

Agribusinesscanalsobedefinedasabranchofknowledge,scientificresearchand

academicteaching.Thisconcernsprimarilytheassessmentofthechangesinthepres-

enceofagribusinessinthenationaleconomy,itsstructureandcontrolmechanisms.

Agribusinessisasubsystemofthenationaleconomy,whichcontributestothegross

nationalproduct.Thisproductiscreatedbyallbranchesconstitutingagribusiness.
