11.1WhenJesushadfinisheddirectinghistwelvedisciples,hedeparted
fromtheretoteachandpreachintheircities.11.2NowwhenJohnheard
intheprisontheworksofChrist,hesenttwoofhisdisciples11.3and
saidtohim,“Areyouhewhocomes,orshouldwelookforanother?”
11.4Jesusansweredthem,“GoandtellJohnthethingswhichyouhear
andsee:11.5theblindreceivetheirsight,thelamewalk,thelepersare
cleansed,thedeafhear,thedeadareraisedup,andthepoorhavegood
newspreachedtothem.11.6Blessedishewhofindsnooccasionfor
stumblinginme.”
11.7Asthesewenttheirway,Jesusbegantosaytothemultitudes
concerningJohn,“Whatdidyougooutintothewildernesstosee?
Areedshakenbythewind?11.8Butwhatdidyougoouttosee?Aman
insoftclothing?Behold,thosewhowearsoftclothingareinkings’
houses.11.9Butwhydidyougoout?Toseeaprophet?Yes,Itellyou,
andmuchmorethanaprophet.11.10Forthisishe,ofwhom
itiswritten,‘Behold,Isendmymessengerbeforeyourface,whowill
prepareyourwaybeforeyou.’11.11MostcertainlyItellyou,among
thosewhoarebornofwomentherehasnotarisenanyonegreaterthan
JohntheBaptizer;yethewhoisleastintheKingdomofHeaven
isgreaterthanhe.11.12FromthedaysofJohntheBaptizeruntilnow,
theKingdomofHeavensuffersviolence,andtheviolenttake
itbyforce.[or,plunderit.]11.13Foralltheprophetsandthelaw
prophesieduntilJohn.11.14Ifyouarewillingtoreceiveit,thisisElijah,
whoistocome.11.15Hewhohasearstohear,lethimhear.

‘Weplayedthefluteforyou,andyoudidn’tdance.Wemournedfor
