ofHeavenislikeamanwhosowedgoodseedinhisfield,13.25but
whilepeopleslept,hisenemycameandsoweddarnelweeds[darnel
isaweedgrass(probablybeardeddarnelorloliumtemulentum)that
looksverymuchlikewheatuntilitismature,whenthedifference
becomesveryapparent.]alsoamongthewheat,andwentaway.13.26
Butwhenthebladesprangupandproducedfruit,thenthedarnel
weedsappearedalso.13.27Theservantsofthehouseholdercameand
saidtohim,‘Sir,didn’tyousowgoodseedinyourfield?Wheredid
thesedarnelweedscomefrom?’
13.28“Hesaidtothem,‘Anenemyhasdonethis.’
“Theservantsaskedhim,‘Doyouwantustogoandgatherthemup?’
13.29“Buthesaid,‘No,lestperhapswhileyougatherupthedarnel
weeds,yourootupthewheatwiththem.13.30Letbothgrowtogether
untiltheharvest,andintheharvesttimeIwilltellthereapers,“First,
gatherupthedarnelweeds,andbindtheminbundlestoburnthem;but
gatherthewheatintomybarn.”’”
13.31Hesetanotherparablebeforethem,saying,“TheKingdom
ofHeavenislikeagrainofmustardseed,whichamantook,and
sowedinhisfield;13.32whichindeedissmallerthanallseeds.Butwhen
itisgrown,itisgreaterthantheherbs,andbecomesatree,sothatthe
birdsoftheaircomeandlodgeinitsbranches.”
13.33Hespokeanotherparabletothem.“TheKingdomofHeavenislike
yeast,whichawomantook,andhidinthreemeasures[literally,three
sata3sataisabout39litersorabitmorethanabushel]ofmeal,until
itwasallleavened.”
13.34Jesusspokeallthesethingsinparablestothemultitudes;and
withoutaparable,hedidn’tspeaktothem,13.35thatitmightbefulfilled
whichwasspokenthroughtheprophet,saying,
“Iwillopenmymouthinparables;
Iwillutterthingshiddenfromthefoundationoftheworld.”
13.36ThenJesussentthemultitudesaway,andwentintothehouse.His
disciplescametohim,saying,“Explaintoustheparableofthedarnel
weedsofthefield.”
