DuringtheCovid-19pandemic,stillgoingonalsointheUSAwhereitis
hardhittingethnicminorities,VDSareatthefrontline,operatingprimarily
throughavirtualmodalityandbytelephone,aswellasallotherhealthcare
contactpoints.
Comingtotheconclusiononthispoint,itisworthconsideringaninteresting
exampleoftransnationalcollaborationbetweenMexicaninstitutionsand
localpartners.TheuMelandEnidZuckerman”CollegeofPublicHealthatthe
UniversityofArizonaandtheUS-MexicoBHChaveexpandedaprogramthat
wasstartedinPhoenixtoPimaCounty,whereitisbringinghealthscreening
servicestounderservedresidents,whilegivingUAHealthSciencesstudents
theexperienceofworkinginthecommunity,51relevantfortheirfurthercareers.
TheinitiativeisdevelopedintheframeworkoftheJuntosporlaSalud,
PrimaryPreventionMobileUnit(PPMU)programmeandprovidesfreehealth
promotionandpreventionservices,andtravelstocommunitieswherealarge
numberofpeopleareuninsuredorunderinsured.
TheMexicoSectionoftheUS-MexicoBHCpaysforthecostsrelatedto
thePPMU,operatedbytheZuckermanCollegeofPublicHealthwiththe
helpofstudentsfromthreemedicalCollegesattheUniversityofArizona,
trainedtoperformanddeliverhealthscreeningservices.Manyofthemare
Spanish-speakingstudentswiththeLatinobackground,andthisfacilitatesthe
interactionwithserviceusers.
PPMUwaslaunchedinPhoenixinApril2016,followedbyanewprogramme
inTucsoninApril2020,andhasprovidedhelptomorethan2,500residentsin
MaricopaandPimacountiessofar.
Conclusion
Inthecontemporaryworld,characterizedbynationalwelfarestatesystems
incrisisorsubjectedtoretrenchment,whileatthesametimemorethan
270millionpeoplehavelivedmorethanoneyearincountriesofwhichthey
arenotcitizens,52itbecomesveryimportanttounderstandwhatkindsof
