In1816inCivitàLavigna(present-dayLavinio),somelocalfarmers
uneartheddozensoffragmentsofaninscriptionwhichwastobecome
themostimportantprimarysourceforseveralgenerationsofhistorians
studyingRomanprivateassociations.Aferallthefragmentshadbeen
reassembled,itturnedoutthattheinscriptionwasalistofby-lawsofan
associationwhichreferredtoitselfasthecollegiumsalutatreDianaeet
Antinoi.Teinscriptionsaidthatthemembersofthecollegium,assem-
bledon9June136inthetempleofAntinous,unanimouslyvotedthatthe
association)sentrancefeewouldbe100sestercesandanamphoraofgood
wine.TemonthlyduesandtheCburialallowance)(paidbythecollegeto
thefamilyorheirsofadeceasedmemberofthecorporation)werealso
decided.Teinscriptioncontainedverypreciseinformationaboutwhat
happenedinthecaseofthedeathofoneofthecollegiati,addressingcases
suchasdeathawayfromLanuviumortheservilestatusofthedeceased.
Tematteroftheorganisationandfinancingofcorporatebanquetsand
festivalswasalsodealtwithindetail.Teinscriptioncontainednotonly
datesoffestivalsandtheprinciplesoftheaccompanyingdistributionsof
handouts,butevenfinesformisconductduringcollegialmeetings.How-
ever,thefirsteditorsoftheinscriptionfromLanuviumprimarilyfocused
onthefragmentcontainingaquotationfromthesenatusconsultumcon-
cerning-generallyspeaking-thelegitimacyofthecollege.Itwasthis
fragmentthatwasincludedinthecollectionofCimperialprivileges)pub-
