TegeneralfeelingaboutARprojectsamongthetraineeswhofollowed
theabove-describedcoursewasthat:(Quitehonestly,nothinginthisproject
waseasy.Everythingwaschallenging,exciting,however,bynomeans
easy’.Whatwasfelttoberelativelyeasy,accordingtothestudentswas
theavailabilityoftheoreticalsources,whichgavethemafirmknowledge
backgroundtodesignthestudy.Apartfromthatthestudentsfoundthe
researchmethodandtoolsquitestraightforwardtodesignandusein
theirclassroomsforthepurposesofdatacollectionsincethecoursethey
wereinvolvedinintroducedthemtothedesignofresearchinstruments
andalsoońeredsamplepractice.Terewasoneexception,however,the
questionnaire,whichinsomecaseshadtoberewritenasubstantial
numberoftimesfinallytobecomprehensible,validandreadytoadminister
intheclassroomandtotheteachers.
Temainareasofdifcultythestudentsencounteredrelatedbothtothe
contentofthestudyanditsform.Onthelevelofcontenttheyreferredto:
•
formulatinginaprecisewayaresearchquestionorhypothesis,
narrowingtheproblemdown;
•
classificationandpresentationofdata;
•
analysisofdata(atendencytomaketoogeneralcommentsoutoftoo
smallanamountofdata);
•
implicationsofthepreliminarydatacollection(definingindependent
anddependentvariables);
•
putingtheoryandpracticetogether.
Onthelevelofformandwritingupareportontheproject,thedifculties
wereobservedin:
•
structuringtheresearchpaper,
•
presentationofdataintheformoftablesandfigures,
•
languageregisterproblems(foradetaileddiscussionseeGabryś-
Barker2006).
Teseareasofdifcultyrequirespecialatentionfromanyteachertrainer
wantingtoimplementARtotrainingsessions.Tereisvastliteraturewhich
willhelpindesigningappropriatetasksforthetrainingprogrammesand
inovercomingthemostdifcultaspectsofprojectdesignandreporting
onit.However,theseactivitiesarenotthesubjectofthisvolume,which
focusessolelyonresearchmethodsandtools.Knowledgeoftheseisoneof
thecomponentsofdesigningsuccessfulARprojects.
