folkart,crafs,traditions,ritualsandmythsrevealthe
socialfunctionsoftheaestheticqualitiesoftheeveryday
phenomena,creatingwhattodaywewouldliketocall“the
aestheticwelfare,”32sodesirableinourtroubledtimes.On
theotherhand,whilelearningfromtheothers,Western
aestheticsoftheeverydayisdeeplyinterestedinitsown
“hereandnow”,and“doesnotneedtobeexoticizedto
justifyitsimportanceandclaimitsfullimpact.”33Whatit
aimsatistheaestheticawarenessthatopensoursensesand
ourmindtotheworldwelivein.
Teforth,andthelastissueistheblurreddistinction
betweentheethicalormoralandtheaesthetic.Tegrowing
recognitionoftheethicaldimensionofaestheticchoices,
judgmentsandexperienceshassignificantlychangedboth
thetheoreticalandpracticalapproachestothefunctions
oftheaestheticinprivateinterpersonalspaceaswellas
inpublicspaces.Teramificationsofthislinkaresofar-
reachingthatitdeservesacloserexamination.
Theaestheticoftheeverydayandpublicspaces
Teaestheticsdirectedtowardsourenvironmentand
oureverydayexistenceplays“acrucialroleinourcollective
projectofworld-making.”34Teresultsofitsapplication
canrangefromthethreatening,negativeimpacttothe
positiveinfluenceonpeople’slife.Tetwentieth-century
experiencesofideologicalandpoliticalrelevanceofthe
aestheticinpublicspacesrevealeditsviolentmanipulative
poweranditspersuasivestrength.Itpossessesallthe
propertiesoftheperfectinstrumenttocontrolpeople’s
