projectsinvolvingsimultaneoustranslationofafewtranslators,wastobepro-
videdinaccordancewithtranslationmemorytoolsandwastosystematize,and
moreimportantly,quickentranslationprocess.
Currently,whenCATcompetencehasbecomealmostanormandabasic
requirementconditioningtranslators’workandamountoftranslationassign-
ments,translatorsagainaretofaceachallenge-whichisknownaslocalization.
Asmentionedearlier,someofthemhavealreadybeeninvolvedinlocalization
projects-onaremotebasis,translatingfromhomeanddeliveringtranslations
online,whilesomeworkfortranslationandlocalizationagencies-workingas
languageexperts,proofreaders,CATtoolsspecialistsorundergoingITtrainings
tomanagelocalizationprocessthemselves.
Inthelightoftheabovechangesandnewlyemergingmarketdemands,itis
becominganobviousfactthattranslationsectorcannolongerdisregardthe
influenceoflocalizationontheirsubjectfield.Oneissure-translatorsthem-
selvesmustreact-theywilleitherbewillingtoreestablishthemselvesaslin-
guistsgoingbeyondthedisciplinetheypracticeorbepreparedtoprovidetrans-
lationmostlyassubcontractors.However,itshallbealsostatedthatintegration
ofITandlanguagesectorisnottotakeplacewithinadayortwo-itwillinvolve
acostly,time-consumingretrainingamongtranslatorswillingtobecomeapart
ofthelocalizationprojectandintroductionofnewcurriculaintouniversitiesand
academiasoastotrainlanguagespecialistsholdingITskills(Lommel2006:
212).
Ontheotherhand,localizationindustrycanlearnalotfromtranslatorsanduti-
lizetranslationtheory-particularlywithregardtohuman-controlledqualityof
thetextandgenerallanguageawarenessthetranslatorshold(Crespo2013:21).
Additionally,theycanalsogreatlycontributetothisprocessbyapplyingtheir
cross-lingualknowledgeandnarrowareaofexpertise(O’Hagan2002:31).This
mightinturnresultinmutualbenefitsforbothparties-localizersandtransla-
tors,whomaylearnalotfromeachotherandsupplementeachotherbyintegrat-
ingITknowledgewithlanguagecompetence.
