Summary.Mediatingroleofemotionalintelligenceontherelationbetweentem-
perament(3temperamentaltraits:activity,endurance,emotionalreactivity)and
needforcognitionwasstudied.Onegroupparticipated:102scholarsofMinistry
ofScienceandHigherEducationforscientificachievements.Herewereusedthree
tests:TheNeedforCognitionScale(polishversion),FormalCharacteristicsofBe-
haviour–TemperamentQuestionnaireRevisedVersionandPopularQuestion-
naireofEmotionalIntelligence.Theresultsshowedthatemotionalintelligence
isamediatorofrelationbetweentemperamentandtheneedforcognitionofper-
sonswithhighacademicachievements.Activity,endurance,emotionalreactivi-
tyinfluencetheneedforcognitionindirectlyandindirectlyway.Activityand
enduranceaidemotionalintelligence’sadvance.Thustheypositiveinfluencethe
needforcognition.Thetotalefectonanenduranceandemotionalintelligenceon
theneedforcognitionwasobserved.Partialmediationexistsonrelationactivity
ontheneedforcognition.
