1.INTRODUCTION
Anecessitytodecreasethereadyproductscostscombinedwithacontinuous
improvementofqualityandpunctualityofsupplyingaproducttothemarketmakes
companiesundertakeactionswhichrationalizethedifferentareasofmanagement.Man-
agementandlogisticsmanagementbecomemoreandmoreoftenoneofthekeyareasin
whichtheproductioncompaniescangainacompetitiveadvantage.Thisinvolvesthe
continuousdevelopmentofthecurrentlogisticprocesses.Suchactionsshouldalways
aimatimprovingtheeffectivenessofsupplyflowsandatminimizingwarehousingcosts.
Thesearetheconditionsprecedenttomaintaincontinuityofeconomicprocesses.Insuch
acase,aproductitselfanditsfeaturesstarttogrowinimportancewhichcandecideabout
itseffectiveoperationinthebroadlyunderstoodlogistics.

oftheconceptcreatedwiththeresultsoftheresearchconductedinsmallproduc-
tioncompanies.However,becausetheconceptitselfisquiteextensiveinitsno-
tions,thisarticleshallpresentsomeofitsgeneralassumptionsandshalldealwith
oneoftheconcept'saspects,namelyalogisticallyefficientproduct.
Whileformulatingaconceptofaproductioncompany,phaseandfunctionaldi-
visionspresentintheliteratureshouldbetreatedasastartingpoint.Onthisbasisit
wasassumedthateverysubsystemofaphasesystempenetratesasubsystemof
afunctionalsystem.Accordingtosuchanassumption,asupplysubsystemshallin-
cludeorderhandling,inventorymanagement,storage,transportandpackagingsimilar-
lytoaproductionsubsystem,distribution,returnanddisposal.Sincethissystemfunc-
tionsinagivenenvironment,itshouldbebasedonagivenlogisticsinfrastructure.
Thiswholesystemwhichcombinesphaseandfunctionaldivisionstogetherwithinfra-
structurewillbereferredtoasalogisticscenterofaproductioncompany.
