PREFACE
Everyyearsince2009theInstituteofMathematicsoftheCzestochowaUniver-
sityofTechnologyincooperationwiththeCzestochowaBranchofPolishMathe-
maticalSocietyhasbeenorganizingsuccessiveconferencesonMathematical
ModelinginPhysicsandEngineering.Thetopicsoftheconferencescovervarious
aspectsofmathematicalmodelingandtheusageofcomputermethodsinmodern
problemsemerginginboththesegreatfieldsofscienceandtechnology.Everytime
theconferenceparticipantsrepresentedaprominentgroupofrecognizedscientists
aswellasyoungresearchersandPh.D.studentsfromdomesticandforeign
universities.
LastyearduetotheextraordinarysituationrelatedtotheCovid-19pandemic
thisseriesstopped.However,thankstothemutualcontactsbetweenthepartici-
pantsofthepreviousconferenceevents,theideaofpublishingamonograph
devotedtopresent-dayadvancesinmathematicalmodelingaroused.Asaresult,
severalresearchersfromtheCzestochowaUniversityofTechnologywereaskedto
prepareachaptersummarizingtheirrecentresultsandindicatingcontemporary
mathematicalmodelingtrendsasseenfromtheirperspective.
Throughoutthecenturiesmathematicalmodelinghelpsscientistsunderstandthe
mechanismsanddynamicsunderlyingvariousphysicalandengineeringphenomena.
Therangeofpossibleproblemswithinthisareaisimmenseascontemporarytech-
nologyhasnumerousmathematicalchallenges.ThisbookonSelectedTopicsin
ContemporaryMathematicalModelingfocusesontheimprovementsofknown
modelingapproachesaswellassomenovelmethodsandconcepts.Itpresentsboth
formal-theoreticalresultsandtheirnewapplicationsinvariousengineeringareas.
Thisvolumecomprisestenchaptersthatreflectthemainthrustofresearchcon-
ductedintheCzestochowaUniversityofTechnologyinthisfieldandpresent
thecurrentfrontiersofseveralimportantareasofappliedmathematics.
Iwouldliketoexpressmygratitudeandappreciationtotheauthorsofthechap-
tersincludedinthismonographfortheirveryinterestingcontributions.Thanksto
theirhelpandexcellentcooperationitwaspossibletoprovideanoverviewofsuch
abroadrangeoftopicsinthegreatartofexpressingcomplexreal-worldproblems
intheshapeoftractablemathematicalformulations,andthusposetheproblems
simply,precisely,andunambiguously.
