abundantrotiferfaunaaswell.ReservoirsofthosetypesinPoznańwerefoundto
supportatotalof104rotiferspecies,21species,includingBrachionusangularis,
B.calyciflorus,B.diversicornis,Keratellacochlearis,K.quadrata,Polyarthra
longiremis,andPompholyxsulcata,beingdominant(EjSmONT-KARABINand
KUCZYńSKA-KIPPEN2001).Urbanpondsandreservoirsinkatowiceprovedtobe
inhabitedbyabout100rotiferspecies,dominatedbyagroupofspeciessimilarin
compositiontothatdescribedabove,supplementedbyPolyarthravulgaris,P

DescriptionsofrotiferfaunasofPolishloticwatersareratherscant;however,
about355specieshavebeensofarrecordedinvariousstreamtypes.PAWŁOWSKI
(1958,1970,1973)conducteddetailedfaunisticandecologicalstudiesonrotifers
ofthelowlandRiverGrabia;therotifershestudiedinhabitedtheriver,itstribu-
taries,andreservoirsontheriver’sfloodterrace.Herecorded239speciesrepre-
senting67genera.Hispaperscontainadetailedsystematicsurveyofthespecies
aswellasacomprehensiveecologicalanalysisofhismaterials.Themostspe-
cies-richcommunityamongtheGrabiarotiferswerethoseofthebenthos(161),
whiletheplanktonconsistedof47species,including43euplanktonicones.Eight
specieswereexclusivelypsammic,whereas21speciesoccurredasmembersof
thepsammonandinothertypesofcommunities.Epibionticspecieswerefairly
numerous(19species);2speciesonly(DrilophagadelageiandPleurotrochaau-
rea)wereparasitic.Mossrotiferswerespecioseaswell.
PEjLERandBēRZIņš(1993a)analysedthedistributionofrotifersinbogwa-
ters;theyidentifiedmorethan20speciesandformsthatwereabundantatpH
lowerthan6.0.Thetypicalbog-dwellerspeciesincludedAdinetagracilis,Bryce-
llastylata,Cephalodelladoryphora,C.gibboides,Collothecarosmae,Colurella
hindenburgi,C.tesselata,Elosaworallii,Habrotrochaangusticollis,H.lata,Ker-
atellapaludosa,K.serrulata,Lecaneacus,L.galeata,L.intrasinuata,L.lunaris
f.crenata,Lepadellaborealis,Macrotrachelacrucicornis,Monommatagrandis,
Polyarthraminor,Rotariasordida,Trichocercacollaris,andTrichotriatetractis
truncata.Thosespeciesaccountedfor60%ofalltheindividualscollectedby
theauthorsquoted.InpeatbogpoolsnearParczewo,RADWAN(1974)identified
thefollowingfouracidophilicspecies:Keratellaserrulata,K.valga,Mytilina
bisulcata,andRotarianeptunia.
RotiferassemblagesinhabitingmosseswerestudiedbyPAWŁOWSKI(1938)
whointheenvironsofPabianiceaswellasintheMasurianLakeDistrictand
TatraMountainsidentifiedatotalof103moss-dwellingspecies.Inaddition,
mADALIńSKI(1961)demonstratedthatmossesofTatrastreamssupport42rotifer
species,including27representingtheBdelloidea.
Aninterestingassemblageisformedbypsammicrotifersoccurringinsandy
beachesoflakesandrivers,describedbyWISZNIEWSKI(1934a,1937,1947).He
