Ourcountrymenwereofasimilarfavourableopinion:nolessthan68per
centofPolesconsiderourPresidencyasuccess.Wehavereafrmedourstatusasa
heavyweightMemberState.WechangedPoland)simagefromacountrywhichonly
benefitsfromtheEUtoacountrywhich—true—benefits,butalsoinspiresothersto
act.TodaywhenothersthinkofPoland,theythinkofeconomicgrowth,amodern
country,andelectivegovernance—wehavebecomeapartnerworthcourting.
Polandhasproventhatitisareliableandresponsiblestate—acountrywhich
createssolutions,notproblems.WehavekeptfaithintheEuropeanUnion,advocating
theprincipleof“moreEurope—notless.”WehavesafeguardedEUcohesioninthe
faceofproposalswhichunderminedtheveryideaoftheentireCommunityproject.
TankstoPolishelorts,theEuropeanParliamentadoptedtheso-calledsix-pack—a
setofregulationsanddirectivesenhancingtheEurozone)seconomicorder.Inmy
opinion,hadtheEUadopteditearlier,wecouldhaveavoidedacrisisassevereas
thisone.TePolishPresidencyalsodrafedthe“EuropeanConsensusonGrowth”—a
reportcomprisingrecommendationsonhowtospureconomicgrowthinEurope.
OurPresidencyalsobroughttheEUclosertotheadoption—afer30yearsinthe
pipeline—ofacompromiseontheEUpatent.Wealsosignedanaccessiontreaty
withCroatiaandclosedsixnegotiationchapterswithIceland.Ouradministration
demonstratedefciency;ourofcialsshowedcompetenceandelectiveness.
DespitetheEU)sinvolvementinitsSouthernneighbourhood,thePolish
PresidencymanagedtotableanolertotheEast.Weagreedonthetextofthe
AssociationAgreementwithUkraine,duetobeinitialledasearlyastomorrow.
WehaveinitiatednegotiationsonsimilaragreementswithGeorgiaandMoldova.
WhetherourEasternneighbours)Europeanaspirationswillcometruewilldepend
largelyonthem.Warsawhostedthe2ndEasternPartnershipSummit,atwhichEU
MemberStatesadoptedadeclarationonBelarus)non-compliancewithdemocratic
standards.Tedebateonthetextofthedeclarationalsodemonstratedthat,
unfortunately,notallEasternPartnershipcountriesareawareofthefactthatthe
pathtoEuropeleadsthroughrespectfortheEuropeanstandardsofdemocracy.
IasktheEurosceptics,howdoyouimagineourEasternpolicywithoutthe
EuropeanUnion?CouldwehavefundedaprojectequalinscopetotheEastern
Partnershipbygoingitalone?Itisthere,intheEast,thatthephenomenon
