Inthisbook,devotedtothetracesoftheHolocaustoftheJewsofLvivthatcanbe
foundinStanisławLem’sprose,thehistoricalcontextcoverstheperiodfromthe
nineteenthcentury,whenthePolonisationoftheGalicianJewsbegan,uptothe
1970s,whenthewriterwasputundersurveillancebythesecretpolice.Theback-
groundfortheinterpretationofLem’srealistandsciencefictionnovelsalsoincludes
hithertounknownfactsfromthewriter’sbiography.Thankstoextensivearchival
research,additionalknowledgehasbeengainedabouttheinterwarandwartime
experiencesofLem’sfamily,andseveralerrorscommonlyappearinginhisbiogra-
phieshavebeencorrected.
