people;inmanycasesunifiestheminspiteofvariousclassbarriers
andscholardivisionsandletsthemexperiencesomethingspecial.
Sportisafascinatingfieldofstudiesforwidelyunderstoodhuman-
istics.Beingforalongtimeaneglectedscience,itisnowthesubject
ofextensiveresearchcarriedoutbyhistorians,sociologists,culture
studiesscholars,andalsolinguists.Sportanditsimmemorialvalues
havebeenreflectedinmiscellaneousrealmsofcultureart,film,
theater,alsothelanguage.Sportisthusoneoftheelementsofcultur-
alheritagewithlonghistory,andalsodependentonvariouscultural
trends.
Moreover,sportisaveryimportantfactorintheprocessofthe
makingofnationsandcommunities.Itbuildscollectiveidentities,
enhancesthesenseofnationalorlocalpatriotism.Asitcanbeob-
servedmostlyinthecaseoffootball(soccer),stadiumsplaytherole
ofquasi-templeswhereasignificantsecularritual,fullofdiferent
meaningsandsymbols,iscarriedout,whereastheAmericanso-
ciologistHarryEdwardsputsit“millionscongregatetobearwit-
nesstothemanifestationoftheirfaith”3.Tisritualdramahasamag-
neticpowertodrawhugecrowdsofspectatorsallovertheworld.
