ThisdetailedportrayalofahemisphericalheaddressissofaruniqueinCen-
tralAsianrockarticonographyasitfeaturesastructuremadeoflinesconnect-
ingtoasemi-circulararc.Theclosestcomparisonisfoundatthefamouspetro-
glyphcomplexofSaimaluu-Tash(Saimaly-Tash)situatedhighintheFerghana
mountainrangeofKyrgyzstan(Fig.3).Heretherepresentationsofthehemi-
sphericalheaddressesarenotdetailed,butdepictedinamannerwheretheyare
considerablylargerinproportiontothebodiesofthehumanfigures.
Meanwhile,thereareseveralrockartdepictionsoffiguresfeaturingfeathered
headdressesfoundaroundCentralAsiadatingtotheBronzeAge(2ndmillen-
niumBCE)(Fig.4).Theoldestknownimages,however,comefromtheimpor-
tantEarlyBronzeAgetombsatKarakol(Fig.5)intheAltaiRepublic(Kubarev
1988).ConstructionworksinthevillageofKarakoluncoveredaprehistoric
cemeterythatcontainedburialsplacedwithinchamberedtombsconstructedof
stoneslabs.Sometombshavebeenradiocarbondatedto2700BCE(Samashev
2002:36).Selectedtombsurfaceswerepaintedwithimagesofhalf-human/half-
animalhybrids(Fig.5a)whichVladimirKubarevconsiderstobeshamansincos-
tumesdecoratedwithanimalparts.Thesearecomparabletosomeknowncas-
esofshamanicapparelintheethnographicpresent(Kubarev2002:104-106).
OtherKarakolfigures(Fig.5b-c)werecarvedintothestonesurfacesandhad
elaboratefeatheredheaddressesterminatingwithdotsthataresimilartoones
