andthedirectionofFrayMartíndeJesúswho,
withFrayAntonioOrtizandtheIndians,owned
theplaceandmanagedtobuildonesacredprecinct
moredistinctivethanMichoacánlThetemporality
ofitsconstructiongaveitspacealongwithformal
andexpressiveparticularitiesthatwerenotrepro-
ducedyearslaterinothergroupsbuiltnearthe
shoreofLakePátzcuarol

Thearchitecturalstructureofthereligiouscom-
plexofSantaMaríaHuiramangarowasoriginally
madeupoffivespaces:alargeatrium,thetemple,
thepriesthouse,anorchardandanareawherethe
chapelstoodalongwiththehospitalandaccommo-
