posting.Treasurygraduatesmayhavebeenabletoconveyinformallysome
preferencesabouttheplaceandformoftheircompulsoryservice,butitis
notclearhowfarthisinuencedthenaldecisions.Militaryservicewasonthe
wholethepreferredformofredeemingthescholarshipbond,andwasfor
theintellectualandphysicalelite;thoseinworsehealthweredesignatedfor
civilianserviceinthefar-ungreachesoftheEmpire.
