6.1“Becarefulthatyoudon’tdoyourcharitablegivingbeforemen,
tobeseenbythem,orelseyouhavenorewardfromyourFatherwho
isinheaven.6.2Thereforewhenyoudomercifuldeeds,don’tsound
atrumpetbeforeyourself,asthehypocritesdointhesynagoguesand
inthestreets,thattheymaygetgloryfrommen.MostcertainlyItell
you,theyhavereceivedtheirreward.6.3Butwhenyoudomerciful
deeds,don’tletyourlefthandknowwhatyourrighthanddoes,6.4
sothatyourmercifuldeedsmaybeinsecret,thenyourFatherwho
seesinsecretwillrewardyouopenly.
6.5“Whenyoupray,youshallnotbeasthehypocrites,fortheylove
tostandandprayinthesynagoguesandinthecornersofthestreets,
thattheymaybeseenbymen.Mostcertainly,Itellyou,theyhave
receivedtheirreward.6.6Butyou,whenyoupray,enterintoyourinner
room,andhavingshutyourdoor,praytoyourFatherwhoisinsecret,
andyourFatherwhoseesinsecretwillrewardyouopenly.6.7
Inpraying,don’tusevainrepetitions,astheGentilesdo;fortheythink
thattheywillbeheardfortheirmuchspeaking.6.8Thereforedon’t
belikethem,foryourFatherknowswhatthingsyouneed,beforeyou
askhim.6.9Praylikethis:‘OurFatherinheaven,mayyourname
bekeptholy.6.10LetyourKingdomcome.Letyourwillbedone,
asinheaven,soonearth.6.11Giveustodayourdailybread.6.12Forgive
usourdebts,aswealsoforgiveourdebtors.6.13Bringusnotinto
temptation,butdeliverusfromtheevilone.ForyoursistheKingdom,
thepower,andthegloryforever.Amen.’[NUomits“Foryoursisthe

6.14“Forifyouforgivementheirtrespasses,yourheavenlyFatherwill
alsoforgiveyou.6.15Butifyoudon’tforgivementheirtrespasses,

6.16“Moreoverwhenyoufast,don’tbelikethehypocrites,withsad
faces.Fortheydisfiguretheirfaces,thattheymaybeseenbymen
tobefasting.MostcertainlyItellyou,theyhavereceivedtheirreward.
6.17Butyou,whenyoufast,anointyourhead,andwashyourface;6.18
sothatyouarenotseenbymentobefasting,butbyyourFatherwho
isinsecret,andyourFather,whoseesinsecret,willrewardyou.
6.19“Don’tlayuptreasuresforyourselvesontheearth,wheremothand
rustconsume,andwherethievesbreakthroughandsteal;6.20butlay
