Inadditiontothistypeoftrainingandinstructionalmaterial,wecanﬁnd

reports,balancesheets,andsummaries,whichcamefromﬁeldcenters.Tepur-

poseofthesereportswas,amongotherthings,toboastabouttheteam)sachieve-

mentsandpossiblytohelpcolleaguesfromotherbranches.However,inmost

publicationsofthistype,themonologueprevailedoverthedialogue,andanof-

cialclericalstylewasmaintained.19

Nonetheless,anelortwasmadetoolsetthissomewhatauthoritariantone

andthesubjunctivenatureofthestatementswithmaterialsinwhichbothheads

ofﬁeldbranchesandrank-and-ﬁlepoliticalworkerswrotemorefreely.Temaga-

zineencouragedcorrespondent-censorstoprovidesuchtestimoniesandtocon-

tributetotheworkoftheeditorialboardbysubmitingplansforcooperation,

notes,articles,andcriticalcomments.20

Obviously,theeditorialboardcouldnotbeopentoarealdialogue:the

onlycriticalmaterialsthatwerepublishedwerethosethatcouldbeusedtoat-

tackorlectureselectedcensorshipteams,individualfunctionaries,oreventhe

entirecensorshipcommunity,butneverthesystemasawhole.However,the

encouragementoffreeexpression,dilerentfromtediousreportsandbalance

sheets,wascertainlyintendedtoloosentherigideditorialformoftheperiod-

icalandmakeitmore“friendly”andaccessiblethanothermaterialscreatedin

theOfce.

SomematerialsabouttheBulletins,includingleterstotheeditors(also

thoseprintedinthemagazine),havebeenpreservedincensorshipdocuments

inarchivesscateredaroundPoland.TefollowingmaterialsfromPoznańmay
