INTRODUCTION
ThiscollectionofexercisesintheareaofPolishsyntaxissetinaper-
spectiveofcontemporaryappliedlinguistics.Itsfundamentalobjec-
tiveistopresentsuchavisionofthestructureofthePolishlanguageas
wouldallowtheforeignerlearningPolishtomorerapidlyandeffectiv-
elydeepenhis/herknowledgeofthislanguageand,atthesametime,
encouragehim/hertoperformindependentlyawiderangeoflin-
guisticoperations.
Inpreparingthecollectionpresented,usehasbeenmadeofre-
centworksintheareaofPolishgrammarforforeigners.Thelinguistic
descriptionofthevarioussyntacticalelementsandrelativewealthofma-
terialcontainedinthemostrecentworks1–whichdiffersfromthat
foundinworksintheareaoftraditionalgrammar–haspermitted
acertainintegratedbodyofover140exercisestobeorganized,which
placeparticularemphasisonspecial,typicallyPolishareasoflinguistic
phenomena,suchas:
–Prepositionsinthesentenceandtheirfunctions
–Verbalnounsandthecasesgovernedbythem
–Non-verbalandimpersonalpredicates,aswellastheirspecificprop-
erties

–Verbsalwaysoccuringwiththepronounsię
–Possessivepronounsandtheirfunctioning
–Adjectivesandprepositions,aswellasthecase(s)governedbythem.
Ateverystageoftheorganizationoftheexercisecollectionentitled
Cozczym?(Whatwithwhat?),effortshavebeenmadetoincludeavar-
ietyofsyntacticelements,sothattheuserofthispublicationwillre-
ceiveareasonablypreciseimageofthecontemporarylanguagecode.
