ThefrequencywithwhichtheEIGRPinterfacesendsHELLOpacketsistheperiod
(interval)occurringbetweenconsecutiveHELLOpackets.Thedefaultis5seconds.
Routersdetectneighborsandformso-calledadjacencieswithneighboringroutersusing
HELLOpackets.Inmostnetworks,HELLOpacketsaresentevery5secondsbydefault.
TherouterassumesthataslongasitreceivesHELLOpacketsfromaneighbor,that
neighboranditsroutesareusable.Whenanewdeviceisdetected,itsaddressandinterface
informationisstored.
Hold–currentholdtime.
Holdtimegivestherouterthemaximumtimetheroutershouldwaittoreceive
thenextHELLOpacketbeforeitconsidersitsneighborunreachable.Thedefault
holdtimeisequaltothreetimestheHELLOinterval,or15seconds.Ifthehold
timerunsout,EIGRPconsiderstheroutetobeoutofserviceandtheDUAL
algorithmeitherlooksforanewrouteinthetopologytableorsendsoutqueries.
