typesofinterpersonalcontactinPolish,introducingoneselfandothers;
describingthecommandofforeignlanguages;expressingsurpriseand
disappointment,certaintyanduncertainty;makingsuggestionsand
respondingtothem;invitingpeopleandacceptinginvitations;encourag-
ingpeopletoeatanddrinkinsocialsituations;drinkingtoasts;order-
ingandpurchasinggoods;and,finally,differentwaysofexpressing
time.
Sinceitisassumedthatthiscoursebookwillbeofassistancein
masteringgrammarandthefourlanguageskills(listening,speaking,
readingandwriting),communicative,readingandwritingactivities
havebeenconsiderablyexpanded(thelatterwerehardlypresentin
thepreviouseditionofthebook).Recordingsofmodeltexts(mostly
dialogs)areextendedtoincludenarrativetexts,whichprovidein-
formationabouthowactionchangesinthelesson,buttheydoitdiffer-
entlythandialoguesandpassagesintroducingthem.Listeningtothese
recordingsshouldendeachlessonunit–itwillthenbeaverygood
exerciseinunderstandingalisteningpassagenotfoundanywherewrit-
tenoutinthecoursebook.
Separatementionneedstobemadeofprojects,introducedin
thiscoursebookforthefirsttime.Theyareextendedcommunicative
andculturaltasks,whichrequiregreatereffortandgreaterthanusual
creativityonthepartofthestudent.Forexample,inordertocomple-
teaprojectonemigrationintheirfamily,thestudentwillhavetomake
additionalinterviewsandsearchforphotographsanddocumentsin
hisorherfamily.

thegrammaticalandcommunicativesyllabuses.Itconsistsofthesocio-
linguisticpart,alreadypresentinthepreviouseditionofthecourse-

someknowledgeofPolishemigrationintheworld,informationabout
Polishholidays(religiousandstateones)and,finally,someknowledge
