eventshortstory(Jamioł,Sachem)andthepsychological
narrative(Latarnik–TheLighthouseKeeper).Inhisworks
heportrayedthelifeofthepooranduneducatedpeasantry,
aswellastheproblemsofexileandhomesicknessinemigra-
tion.Sienkiewiczwasalsoarenownedhistoricalnovelist.He
isthegreatestPolishhistoricalwriter;hecreatedaseriesof
booksofPolishhistory,forexamplefromthe17thcentury:
Ogniemimieczem(WithFireandSword),Potop(TheDelu-
ge),PanWołodyjowski(Mr.Wolodyjowski)–thesethreebo-
okswerecalledtheTrilogy,orfromtheturnofthe14thand
15thcenturies:Krzyżacy(Crusaders).Hisnovelswerewidely
readduringhistime,andheisstillregardedasoneofthe
mostpopularPolishwriters.HealsowontheNobelPrizein
1905forhisnovelQuoVadis(abouttheearlydaysofChri-
stianity),whichhasbeentranslatedintoabout40langu-
ages.
