Abstract:InthePolishCarpathians,noextensiveresearchhaspreviouslybeencarriedouton
coprophagousbeetlesoftheScarabaeoideasuperfamily.Researchonthisgroupofinsectsin
thePolishCarpathianswascarriedoutfrom2011to2013.Beetleswerecaughtusingbaited
pitfalltrapsandbytheflotationmethod.Theresearchwascarriedoutatsitesthattookinto
accountboththehorizontaldiversityofhabitatconditionsandverticaldiversityassociat-
edwiththeincreaseinelevationabovesealevel.Intotal,beetleswerecaughtat78sites.
ThecurrentspeciescompositionofcoprophagousScarabaeoideainthePolishCarpathians
wasanalysedinrelationtohistoricaldata.ThemesoregionsofthePolishCarpathianswith
thehighestspeciesrichnessandthehighestdiversityofthisgroupofinsectsweredeter-
mined.TheverticalrangesofoccurrenceofindividualdungbeetlespecieswithinthePolish
Carpathianswereestablished,aswellastheelevationsabovesealevelwiththehighestand
lowestspeciesrichnessofthisgroupofinsects.Thehabitatpreferencesofspeciesoccurring
withinthePolishCarpathiansweredeterminedaswell.Finally,criteriawereproposedfor
identifyingrareorvulnerabledungbeetlesinthearea.
