DuringeacheditionoftheInterna-
tionalWeeks,lecturesconductedbyfor-
eignteachersareattendedbyover200
studentsoftheuniversity.Weareaware
ofthefactthatnoteverystudentwants
orcanaffordtostudyabroadforoneor
twosemesters;therefore,weofferlec-
tureswhichtheymayattendwithout
leavinghome.Thecoursesprovideddur-
ingtheInternationalWeeksarealso
popularamongstudentswhowanttofind
outwhatitisliketoparticipateinclasses
conductedinaforeignlanguageandlearn
howtoworkinaninternationalteam
beforegoingabroad.
Theclassesconductedbyforeign
teacherscoverawiderangeofsubjects
andencompassmostofthefieldsof
studytaughtatUniversityofEconomicsin
Katowice,frominformatics,marketing
andmanagement,throughsocialsciences
andhumanities,tofinanceandaccount-
ing–theofferisavailabletostudentsof
allfacultiesandspecialisations.
Theofferaddressedtostudentswithin
theframeworkoftheInternationalWeeks
isalsoopentoforeignstudentswhoare
stayingatouruniversityunderexchange
programmes.Participationinthecourses
maybedeclaredalreadyatthestageof
selectingsubjectsintheLearningAgree-
mentwhensubmittingapplicationdocu-
ments.Onemayobtain3ECTSpointsfor
attendingaweek’scourse.Thisofferis
complementarytotheofferofover150
coursesconductedinEnglishduringthe
wholeacademicyear.
Apartfromdiverseeducationoppor-
tunities,foreignstudentsarealsooffered
anextensiveculturalprogramme.Atthe
beginningofeachsemesterweorganise
anOrientationWeekduringwhichstu-
dentshaveachancetofamiliarisethem-
selveswiththeuniversityandthecityof
Katowice,andlearntherudimentsof
Polish.Inthecourseoftheacademic
year,withthesupportoftheErasmus
StudentsNetwork,weorganiseanumber
ofeventswhichhelpstudentsbetter
integratewiththelocalenvironmentand
discoverthetraditionandcultureofthe
regionandthecountry(visitstogalleries,
museums,coalmineandbrewery,skiing
trips,toursofKraków,Wrocław,etc.).
EveryforeignstudenthasanESNbuddy
(buddysystem)whohelpstheminall
mattersrelatedtotheorganisationand
legalisationoftheirstay,medicalappoint-
ments,whocollectsthemfromtheairport
and,ifnecessary,actsasatranslator.
Theacademicofferisavailable,free
ofcharge,tostudentsunderallcoopera-
tionagreements–Erasmusandelse.
Applicationsaresubmittedonline,usually
by15thJuneforthewintersemesterand
by1stDecemberforthespringsemester.

Thewholeprocessofmobilityor-
ganisation,includingthesigningofcoop-
erationagreements,organisationofstu-
dents’stayandissueofrequiredcertifi-
cates,issupervisedbytheInternational
RelationsOffice,whichcoordinatesall
academicexchangeprogrammes.
