umsandethnographicmuseumsallovertheworldhavepromotedmaterialculture
andanthropologicaldisciplinesandcontributedtothedefinitionandpracticeofthe
newsocialroleofmuseums.
Inrecentyears,museumshavechangedradically,theyhaveembracedmany
insightsandexperiencesofecomuseums,thusextendingtheirsocialroleandmission.
Communityactivitieshavebecomeafertilebreedinggroundformeetingsbetween
museumsandecomuseums.Insomecountries,suchasItaly,theyworkpositively
togetherandtherearenomoresignificantdifferencesintheirsocialactivities.

TheInternationalNetworkofEcomuseumsandCommunityMuseumsattended
Milan,sICOMGeneralConferenceandorganisedaForumthatdiscussednewpros-
pectsforglobalecomuseology.AttheendoftheForum,ecomuseumsapprovedacon-
tributiontotheICOMdiscussiononculturallandscapes.Inthisdocumentecomuse-
umsandcommunitymuseumsremindusthat:
Ecomuseumsandcommunitymuseumsarethelandscape.Theyhavealwaysbeenthe
landscapesincetheywerebornbecausetheydealwiththetangibleandintangible,living
diffusedheritage.Fromthebeginningtheyhavechosenatrans-disciplinaryapproach,
experimentedandtestedinreallife.Thisinnovativeapproachhasinspiredmoretradi-
tionalmuseumsandinstitutionsatanylevel.Ecomuseumsexistallovertheworld.They
arewillingtocooperatewithmuseumsatlocal,nationalandgloballevelstoengage
withthenewchallengesemergingfromthedebatesofthe24thGeneralConference,on
MuseumsandCulturalLandscapes.20
TheForumendorsedtheICOMResolutiononlandscapeandapprovedthe2016
MilanCooperationCharterKEcomuseumsandculturallandscape”.21TheCharter
presentsthecommonvision,thechallengesandtheresponsibilitiesofecomuseums
andfocusestheirpositionasregardsculturallandscapes:
