blends.Iwillmerelyoutlinetheirbasicstructureinordertoshowwhatkindof
inputspacesareintegratedbytheÇgvedicpoets.Iwillratherfocusontherange
ofglobalinsightsintovariousaspectsofrealitythatisgainedintheemergent
space,thanonhowitisgained36.Thereconstructionofinputspacesofablendis
adynamicreconstruction.Iwillsupplyitwithstaticreconstruction,i.e.whatthe
emergentspacestatesabouttheworldandhumanbeings.Inotherwords,whatis
thefinaleffectofintegrationandwhatitsaysabouttheÇgvedicworldview.The
thoroughanalysisoftheÇgvedicblendsneedsaseparateinvestigation.
1.5.2.Metonymyasthesourceforcontradictoryconcepts
Theinputspacesoftheconceptualblendscanbecontradictory;insuchcases
theemergentspaceoftheblendsconveysacontradictorymeaning(e.g.concept
ofThatOnewhichsimultaneouslybreathesanddoesnotbreath,seesection2.2).
Anotherconceptualoperationwhichleadstocreationofcontradictoryconceptsis
metonymicidentificationofthesymbolofdarknesswiththesymboloflight.This
metonymyreflectsitselfonthelinguisticlevel,e.g.thedirectobjectoftheverbs
thatdenotetheopeningoftheseenclosuresortheirdestructioncanbeeitherthe
enclosureitselforitscontents37.Itisalsoreflectedintheuseofsomewords,e.g.
thenounsnidh[andareusedtodenoteboth,thecontainer(‘treasury’,‘cow’)
andthecontents(‘treasure’,‘milk’,seesections3.5.2,5.4).
Themetonymicidentificationofthesymbolsoflightwiththesymbolsof
darknessisgroundedinthepsychologicalconditioningoftheÇgvedicpoetswhich
isthestrongdesiretoobtainthedesiredobjects.Duetothis,thepositiveattitude
towardsthedesiredobjectsisextendedtotheirpossessor.Thenextexperiential
factormotivatingthisidentificationisthemysticvisionrealisedundertheinfluence
ofSoma.Duringit,thevisualisedimagestransformedthemselvesinsuchaway
thattheimagewhichseemstobefinalturnsouttohidethenext.Motivatedby
theseexperiences,themetonymicidentificationofthesymbolsofdarknesswiththe
symbolsoflightbecomesanimportantsourceforcomplexphilosophicalconcepts
whichincludeintheirrangeelementsthatineverydaylifeexcludethemselves.For
exampleacontainercannotbeitscontentsandawholeisnotapart38.
