trajectory.Thewidthofthebeam(σ(z)),whichisassumedtohaveaGaussianshapeisrelated
toβasσ(z)1dćβ(z),wherećisthebeamemittance.Theemittanceisameasureofan
averagespreadofbeamparticlesinposition-momentumspace.Fortheinteractionpoint,z10,
betafunctionisdenotedasβ.Smallerβcorrespondstostrongerbeamcollimationatthe
interactionpointandthereforelargerLinst.
