3.2.Testlayers
Beforetheinstallationoftheballastandthetracks,anumberofbridge
sectionsisequippedwithvariousdispersionlayersasdiverseasasphalt,rubber
withandwithoutpolyamideinlays,glassfiberreinforcedepoxyplates,
aluminumhoneycombsandwichpanels,e.a.,someofwhichareshowninFig.5
Somemoredetailedinformation,suchasdimensionsandthickness
values,abouttheselayersissummarizedintable1.Thistablealsoillustratesa
widevariationbetweenthedifferentlayersbeingstudied.Mostlayers,butthe
asphaltone,weregluedontothesteeldeckplate,usingspecialneoprene-based
glue.Theasphaltlayerwasinstalledusingclassicinstallationtechniquesfor
coldasphalt.
Theuseofneoprene-basedglueensuredthattheconnectionbetween
dispersionlayeranddeckplatewasassoundaspossible,keepinginmindthat
thetestswereperformedonarailwaybridge,implyingthatalllayersandstrain
gaugesneededtoberemovedattheendofthestrictlylimitedtestingperiod.
Thisfactoralsoimpliedthattheusedgluehadtobeaquick-bondingone.
Theattachmentoflayerstothedeckplateprovedtobeoptimalinmost
layers.Onlythegluingoftheglassfiberreinforcedepoxylayerprovedtobeless
thanideal,whenexaminedduringtheremovalofthelayers.Aspreviousfinite
elementstudiesprove,agoodconnectionofthedispersionlayerisoftheutmost
importanceforoptimaldispersion.Thismightimplythattheresultsfoundfor
theepoxylayeraren’taspositiveastheywouldbeunderidealconditions.
