Modellinglanguagesandtoolsplaysanimportantroleinsoftwaredevelopmentand
maintenance.SincethenumberofUMLtoolsonthemarketisgrowing,thereisaneedfor
somequalitycriteriaandmethodsfortheirevaluationandcomparison.Thispaperpresents
aqualitymodelwhichallowsmultidimensionalviewingofUMLtools.Then,itdescribes
aquestionnairewhichishelpfulinconductingefficientevaluationandSystemforQuality
EvaluationofUMLToolswhichwasdevelopedonthebasisofthequalitymodel.This
systemcanbeappliedforselectingUMLtoolsandanalysisofthemarketofUMLtools.
SelectionofUMLtoolsissupportedbysearchingUMLtoolsaccordingtothedesiredqual-
itycriteriaandmarketanalysisisfacilitatedbyautomaticallygeneratedstatistics.Thepaper
presentsalsoresultsoftheevaluationofUMLtoolsandtheirclassificationintodrawing
tools,modellingtoolsandmodel-drivenengineeringtools.

Modellinglanguagesandmodellingtoolsplayaveryimportantroleinsoftware
developmentandmaintenance.Onecannoticethattheyareusuallyconsidered
togetherinsuccessstoriesorresearchreportsonbenefitsfrommodelling.Inorder
tounderstandbettertheroleofeachofthem,wewillfirstshortlyanalyzefactors
whichimpacteverysinglebenefitreportedinthesestudies.
