BakuinAzerbaijan,themanganeseorenearChiaturain
Georgia,othermineralsandcottonandedibleplantsgrown
inthearea.Asaresultofthelargeoilreserves,in1901,with
11milliontonnesofoilextracted,Russiarankedfirstinthe
worldinoilproduction,whichincluded51.6%ofglobaloil
production.TheUSAheldthesecondplacewith39.5%of
worldextraction.AlthoughoilproductioninRussiadeclined
inthefollowingyears,theoilwasstillthemostimportant
mineralresourceintheTranscaucasia.Ontheotherhand,
