oneautumnoftheearly1990s.Thetripchangedmyperceptionofthingsandmade

merealizethatIwantedtopursuethehumanities,whichwaslaterembodiedinmy

studiesofhistory,theatre,andculturalanthropology.Inthisjourneyoutsidethe

sphereofinfluenceofmyscientistGrandparents,Chopinwouldbemysubjectand

guide.Iamverygratefultofatethatthishasbeenthecase,andinadditiontobow-

ingtotheShadowsofmyGrandparentsandtheShadowofChopin,Ioweahuge

debttomyParents,HusbandandourChildrenAryaandFrederickfortheirconstant
