picturesqueandthesublimetobefoundinourenvironment
-innature.
Aesthetics,anońspringofmodernrationality,was
originallysupposedtobeadiscursivediscipline,“ayounger
sisteroflogic”.3Kant’scontribution,revolvingaroundthe
ideaofdisinterestednessanddistanceofasubjective,yet
necessaryanduniversal,judgmentoftaste,lefuswiththe
worlddividedintotheseparaterealms,wheretheaesthetic
wasseparatedfromthescientific,theethical,and,most
importantly,fromthepraxisoflife.Terifwasdeepened
bytheHegelianidealism,wheretheproperobjectof
philosophicalreflectionwasprimarilyaworkofart,alofy
productofthespirit.Aestheticthought,stillresonantof
thePlatonicvisions,claimedtheideaofrepresentation,
constructingtheorderofbeinganditsevocation,
recapturingorilluminationinart.Representation,
perceivedascreatinganimagethatstandsin-between,on
theislandposition,transgressingboththesphereofthought
andthesphereoftheworld,wasconsideredadistinct
planeandactivity.Tus,theissueofthepositionofartin
referencetootherhumanactivitieswasusuallyresolved
infavourofaestheticisolation.Itsfoundationwas“abelief
inontologicaldiscretenessofaestheticperceptionandthe
correspondingremovalofartobjectsfromtheotherobjects
andactivitiesthatsurroundus.”4
However,sincethe1960s,thisarbitraryposition,almost
automaticallyacceptedbythesuccessivegenerations,has
seemedtobefadingaway,imperceptiblyturningintoone
moreblack-and-whitesketchontheestimablepagesof
thehistoryofWesternthought.Rediscoveringitshalf-for-
gottenoriginsunderthethinpavingoftheoryisolatingthe
