standmustbesteadytoensurelightstability.
STROBE
Strobesareusedtoproduceflashesoflight.Unlikecon-
tinuouslighting,whichstaysononceitisswitchedon,
astrobeneedstobetriggeredeachtimetolightasub-
jectorscene.
REFLECTOR
Areflectorreflectslightfromthemainsourceoflight
ontothesubject.Reflectorsareperfectformakingharsh
shadowsappearsofter.Areflectorconsistsofareflective
fabricthatisstretchedoveraframe.Forphotographers
specialisinginportraitphotographyasmallerreflector
isrecommended.
SOFTBOX
Asoftboxisalightmodifier.Itdifuseslightmaking
itevenandsoft.Softboxescomeinallsortsofdiferent
shapes(rectangular,square,octagonaletc.)andsiz-
es(large,medium,small).Theyareattachedtoalight
sourceonalightstand.Ontheinside,theboxislined
withawhiteorsilverreflectivefabric.Thefrontofasoft-
boxistranslucent.
TRIPOD
Atripodkeepsthecamerasteady.Itshouldweighatleast
twiceasmuchastheitemthatisgoingtobeattachedto
itsoitdoesn’ttipover.
BACKDROP
Backdropsarebackgroundsthatareavailableinmany
diferentsizes,materials(e.g.cotton,paper,vinyl)
andcolours.Abackdropisusuallyattachedtoapole,
whichissupportedbystands.
