Weallaskourselvesthesequestionsatsomepointinourlives.Today,inthe
twenty-firstcentury,weseemtothinkthattherearenobarriersorlimitations-weare
freepeople,livinginamodern,globalizedworld.
However,onreflection,itdawnsonusthatitisnotallthatsimple.Democratic
statesstrivetoensurethateverycitizengetsequalaccesstoeducationandequal
opportunitiestorealizetheirdreamsandambitions.Andyet,eachofusisbornto
adiferentfamily,atadiferentplace;eachhasspecificcapabilitiesandcarriesunique
culturalbaggage.Ifthisishardforus,peoplelivinginthetwenty-firstcentury,how
harditmusthavebeenforourancestors?Imaginetheobstaclesfacedbythosewho
-tofollowtheirdreamsandpursuetheirvocation-hadtoabandontheirfamilyhomes,
oftendefyingthetraditionthatwasdeeplyingrainedinthem.Theyhadtoovercome
financialbarriers,closedstateborders,andmanyotherrestrictionsimposedonJews
bytheoutsideworld.
TheLegacygalleryisdedicatedtothem-prominentPolishJewswhoselife
storiestestifytothefactthatitisworthwhiletotranscendlimitationsinorderto
achieveone’sgoals.Wemustnevergiveupourdreamsandambitions.Wemuststrive
tomakethisworldabetterplace,inlinewiththeconceptoftikkunolam,repairingthe
world,thatissodeeplyrootedintheJudaictradition.
Theexhibitiondevotedtothedreamers,repairersoftheworld,ismorethanjust
atributewepaytothem-wedohopetheirliveswillinspireusalltopersevereinthe
pursuitofourdreams.Thus,wewillmakeourselveshappyand,ultimately,willmake
theworldabetterplace.
