Abstract
Thestudypresentsresultsoftheresearch,whichhadcharacterofqualitative
contentanalysis,onsixlifestylemagazinespublishedinPoland-“Cosmopolitan”,
“Glamour”,“TwójStyl”.“Playboy”,“CKM”and“Men’sHealth”-theannual
volumesfortheyear2006.
Inthepresentedstudytheauthortriestoanswerthefollowingquestions:

Arethereadersoftheresearchedmedia-takingintoaccountaimsofbodily
activitiesintherealmofleisurewhichareprescribedbythemagazines-
encouragedtofulfilltheirspontaneousdesiresortosubordinatetopatternsof
behaviourwhichareindependentfromtheirdesires?
-
Ifintheanalysedmessagestherearecallsofbothkinds,whatisthewayto
reconcilecontradictionsbetweenthem?
-
Whatmodelsofrelationsbetween“I”andthebodyarepresentedbythe
analysedmagazinesandtheydeterminedbyaimsofbodilyactivity?
Regardingformsofbodilyactivityprescribedbytheresearchedmagazines
fromtheviewpointoftheirsupposedlyliberatingorconformisingcharacter,the
authordistinguishes-asaresultoftheanalysis-fourcategoriesofprescriptions:
encouragements,duties,seductionsandinstructions.Thefirstofthemisagreeable
withthevisionofmasscultureasaproponentoflibidinalfreedom,whilethe
otherthreehaveconformisingfeatures.
Theresearchedmagazinesapplyanumberoftechniquesinorderto
camouflageorreducecontradictionsbetweenaffirmationoflibidinalfreedom
whichispromotedbythemandconformisingaspectsoftheirmessages.They
consist,interalia,ingivingconformistconductanappearanceoffreedomand
spontaneityorunderestimatingofinconvenienceswhichareconnectedwithit.
Theanalysisofrelationsbetween“I”andthebodypresentedintheanalysed
magazinesprovesthatyoufindtherebothexamplesofthinkingaboutthebodyas
somethinginseparablefromtheego-itsexperienceandaformofself-expression
-aswellascaseswhenthebodyisthoughtaboutininstrumentalreifyingterms
transferredfromtherealmofmodernwork.Thefirstconceptionofrelations
betweentheegoandthebodyappearsinprescriptionswhichhaveaformof
