TheresultsofthesurveystudyconfirmthatinmanylanguagesusedinEurope,
theprototypicalreferenceofthewordsforwhiteissnow,andforthewordsforyellow
itisthesun0InlanguagesspokennotonlyinEurope,theprototypicalreferenceofthe
wordsforblackisthenight,andthewordsforbluehavetheskyastheirreference0
Theinfluenceofgeographicalconditionsonassociationswithcoloursisalsoobserved
inthecaseofrespondentslivinginMiddleAmericaandSouthAmerica:theygave
boththeseaandtheskyasassociationswithblue0
Culturalfactorsmayalsohaveaneffectonassociationswithcolours,forinstance
associatinggreenwithhopealthoughthisassociationmaybebasedonobservations
ofspringandvegetation0Theassociationsofredwithloveandpassionhaveaphysio-
