Summary:
Theaimofthispaperistoanalysethecost-effectivenessofthermalmodernisation
ofadetachedhouse,makinguseofdifferenttechnologies.Inordertoreduceheat
lossesthreethermo-modernisationoptionsareconsidered.Intherstoptionthe
exteriorwallsareinsulatedwith10cmthickStyrofoamandtheroofisinsulated
with15cmthickmineralwool.Thisproducesthefollowingheattransfer
coefcients:fortheexteriorwallU=0.213W/(m
2
K)andfortheroofU=0.214
W/(m
2
K).Inthesecondoption,additionallytothewallandroofinsulation,the
windowswhoseheattransfercoefcientisU=0.9W/(m
2
K)arereplaced.Inthe
thirdoptionalltheworkasinthesecondoptionisdoneandanew,state-of-the-art
boilerofthe93%efciencyisinstalled.
Theheatcalculationsforthethermalmodernizationofthedetachedhouseare
performedwiththecomputerprogramPURMOOZCv4.80b.Tocostthethermo-
modernisationworksthecomputerprogramNormaProv4.03-pricelistforthe
April-Julyquarter2013isused.
Thethermalmodernizationoftheexistingdetachedhouseencompassinginsulating
externalbarriers,replacingoldwindowswithnewtighteronesandinstalling
anewmoreefcientboilerresultedinaconsiderablereductionoftheheatdemand
coefcient(EA)andallowedclassifyingthehouseasenergy-efcient.
Thescopeofthethermo-modernisationinthethreeoptionsincreasesaswellas
thecostsincurred.Thethirdoptionistwiceasexpensiveastherstone,yetthe
paybackperiodissimilar-approximatelynineyears.Themostprotableisthe
thirdoptionofthermo-modernisationbecauseinatwenty-yearperiodtheowner
cansaveabout41324PLNascomparedtothecostsincurredcurrently.

Introduction
Inrecentyearstherisingcostsofmaintainingandoperatingaresidentialbuilding,
togetherwithincreasinglyrestrictiveregulationsinresidentialconstructionaswellas
growingenvironmentalawarenessofPolishsocietyhaveallforceddesigners,investors
andoccupantstoapplytechnologieswhichwillenabletoachievethemostcost-effective
andenergy-savingbuildingsolutions.
Thevaluewhichassessesthebuildinginenergy-consumptiontermsisthecoefcient
ofseasonalheatdemand(EA).Thisvalueenabledtocreateenergy-consumption
classicationofbuildings(Table1)(Sas-Micuń2006).
