AnelderlymantoldmeastoryaboutsacrificingahumanforShiliinBogd
mountain.Inthefirsthalfofthe20thcentury,onedangerousmanusedto
sacrificerepeatedlymanygirlstothemasterofthatmountain.Whenhewas
losinghispower,hesacrificedgirlsforregainingit.Onenighthekilledand
offeredagirltoShiliinBogd,andthenwenttocommitarobbery.Hestole
alotofthingsthatnight.Damba(Саагийнłамба),awell-known“good
man”ofDarigangaoncesavedagirlfromthatdangerousman.WhenIwas
young,Dambalivednearmyhome.Dambasaid:“OnceIsearchedforsome
ofmyhorsesinthevicinityofShiliinBogd.SuddenlyIheardawoman
wailingloudly.Ifoundthiscryingwomantiedtoatreewithafacecovered
withacottoncloth.Iuncoveredherface.Theyoungwomantoldmethat
shewasagirlofaDarigangamanwholivednearthelakeGanga.Shesaid
thatamanhadsnatchedherfromaplacenearherhomeandbroughthere.
Hewenttothewesternsideofthemountain,soIhidherbehindabigrock
andfollowedthatman’stracks.Hewassleepingatthewesternslopeof
ShiliinBogd.WhenIreachedhim,hewokeup.Helookedstrongerthan
me,soIdidnotdaretofightwithhim.InsteadIsaid:“IwasaDariganga
rustlerandwouldliketobelikeyou.”Themanagreed,andhesaidthat
hehadcapturedagirlandwouldsacrificehertothemountain’sowner.
Thenwewouldgotosteal.Eventuallyheorderedmetoguardourselves
tillnight.Asaresultofexhaustionhefellasleepagain.Iwaiteduntil
duskandIapproachedhimsilentlyandhithishead.Themanfelldown.
