Signifcantmeaning
Althoughalotstillremainsunknown,onethingiscertain:thephenomenonof
systemtransformationinpost-SovietUkraineisoneofthemostinterestingtopics
forresearchersaroundtheworld.TereisnodoubtthatcontemporaryUkraine
hashadatleastthreemassprotestsorganisedattheIndependenceSquareinKyiv.
Teseare:the1990RevolutiononGranite,the2004/2005OrangeRevolution
andthe2013/2014EuroMaidan(oftenreferredtoastheRevolutionofDignity).
TeRevolutiononGranitewasthefirstwaveofMaidanprotestsinthehistory
ofcontemporaryUkraine.Itledtothedepartureofahigh-levelofcial,thefirstin
theUSSR’shistory,anditwasakindofprefiguration,amodelfortherevolution-
aryeventsthattookplaceinUkraineinthesubsequentyears.Italsoenteredthe
canonofnon-violentrevolutions.
Te2004/2005and2013/2014revolutionshadawiderreachandmobilised
Ukrainiansocietyatanunprecedentedlevel.Teyalsohadanimpactoncontem-
poraryEuropeandtheEuropeanUnionandUnitedStates’policiestowardsthe
region.Tese,inturn,influencedbothUkraine’sinternalandexternalairs.Tus,

democracyornationalism.WearealsolookingatUkraine’sprotestsandrevolutions
throughtheprismtheoriesonrevolutionarymovementswhichareputforward
byresearchersaroundtheworld.Weareparticularlyinterestedinunderstanding
