theVelvetRevolutioninCzechoslovakia.Wealsoexaminewhetherweshould
subordinatethemtoSamuelHuntington’sthirdwave.
Internallogicofrevolutions
OurgoalistoanalysesourcesontheUkrainianrevolutions,comparethem,
andsearchformoreuniversalmechanismsofrevolutions.Amongotherthings,
weareexaminingcollectiveactionsandindividualstrategies,inordertobetter
understandtheinternallogicoftherevolutionaryprocessesintheUkrainianand
internationalcontext.Ouranalysisfocusesontherelationshipbetweentheoldand
new(revolutionary)eliteandtheuordinary”actors.Inaddition,weareinterestedin
thebehaviourofthenewauthoritiesandthebuildingofnewsocialtiesandnational
identities,aswellasthedisappearanceofoldauthorities.Wecomparetheimpact
ofrevolutionarymodelsborrowedfromhistoryandthecreationofnewmodels.
Teprojectmethodologymainlyreliesoncollectingtestimoniesofdirectpar-
ticipantsofUkraine’sprotests.Oralhistoryisregardedasoneofthemostadequate
methodsforresearchingsuchsocialphenomena.Inaddition,aliteraturereview
isbeingcarriedout.Weenvisionthatthecollectedmaterialwillservefuturere-
searchersofUkrainianańairswhowillbefurtherabletoanalysedińerentaspects
ofthethreeKyiv-basedrevolutions.Tus,ourhopeistoinspireacademicsaround
theworldtobenefitfromourfindingsandgatheredprimarysourcesandusethem
intheirownresearchendeavours.

PawełKowalisapost-doctoralfellowattheCollegeofEurope’sNatolincampus.Heisapolitical
scientist,historian,essayistandpoliticalcommentator.Amongotherthings,heworksforthePolish
AcademyofSciencesandtheUniversityofWarsaw.Intheyears2002–2014,heheldnumerouspublic
ofces,wasamemberofthePolishParliamentandEuropeanParliament,andwasSecretaryofState
