not“supposedlyreallysuffering”.HosamisinterpretstheGermanexpressionwohlin
thiscontext.IfHandkehadwantedtowrite“supposedlyreallysuffering”,hewould
havechosenthewords“angeblichwirklichleidend”.
Andfnally:Theeditorsaysinafootnote:“ThequotesinEnglishweretranslated
bytheauthorofthisessayfromtheirGermanoriginalsandmaydifferfromother
