centuriesofdevelopmentoftheMediterraneancivilization.Thebreakthrough
(atleastinthesenseofsubjectiveexperience)roleofthecurrent,almostsimulta-
neouslymarkingthebeginningofthethirdmillennium,socialandcivilizational
crisis,isdescribed,amongothers,byKrzysztofWielecki:“Thepresenttimes
couldsaybeeasilyreferredtoasastateofadeeppost-industrialcrisis,which
istheresultofmajorcivilizationalchanges,especiallytechnologicalones,but
alsosomeintellectualloopingofpeople,akindofanevolutionofintellectual
currents,thecollectiveimagination,valuesystems,etc.[ł]Weliveinatimeof
crisisofcivilization,whichmakesusexperienceadramaticandhistoricrupture
oftwoeras:thealreadypassingindustrialismandthenew,whichwecannotyet
name,andthatisbornbeforeoureyes.[ł]Differentiatingfactoristhecrisisof
thesocialorder,violatingthestabilityofsocialstructures,majorsocialinstitu-
tions,fromthestatetothefamily,culture,economy,etc.Itdeepensthesuffer-
ing,thelackofconfidence,acrisisofidentity,confusion,anxiety,despair,and
narcissismofamodernman.”5
Thisandsimilardiagnosesdonottoalargeextentmentionthementalas-
pectsofculturethataredirectlyrelatedtothedevelopmentofscienceandtech-
nologyandtheirpracticalapplications,butmostofalltheymentiontheaxio-
logicalenvironment,shapingthepreferentialthinkingstyles,thecompetencein
knowledgeandrecognitionofvalueslaboveall,moralones,thoughnotonlyl
andtheattitudetowardsthestandardsandobligationsarisingfromthecurrent
shapeofthesocialorder.Theaforementionedaxiologicalenvironmentconsists
ofasetlformanycenturiesrelativelystablelspaceofvaluesthatarereflected
inworksofart,philosophicaltreatises,legalandpoliticalsystemsandtraditions
andcustomsdeeplypenetratingdailylivesofpeople.Meanwhile,todayweob-
serve“astrongtrendinthesocialsphereofdetachingthepersonalandsocial
lifefromethicalstandards.Thistendencyinacertainsensewasalsoformerly
elaborated.Nietzsche,amongothers,pointeditoutinhisessay,entitledJenseits
vonGutundBöse.Today,however,itischaracterizedbyparticulardynamics.
Axiologyitselfistreatedasaspecificrestrictionoffreedom,boththeindividual
andsocialone.Exemplificationofthisfactcanbeaproblemoflawmakingin
multiplesocialbeings.Basinglegalstandardsonethicalprinciplesisregarded
asaspecificformofthebondageoflaw.Therefore,theexistenceofanethical
order,whichinthefieldoflawmakingwouldmakethestandardsofconduct,is
firmlyrejected.”6
