Second,itistruethatjurisprudenceisnotwithoutscholarly/
scientificvalue,butitisdimculttopointtoanycharacteristic
methodsoflegalresearchthatithasdeveloped.Inthissense,
themethodologyofjurisprudenceisofaheteronomicnature,for
itonlyborrowsitsinstrumentsfromotherfieldsofknowledge,
forexample,fromlinguistics,psychology,sociology,biology,
andeconomics.Thus,itdoesnotpossessitsownmethodology,
butratheramethodologyspecificforagivenfieldofknowledge
thathasbeenadaptedforthepurposesofjurisprudence.Inthis
sense,thescholarly/scientificnatureofjurisprudenceisonlythe
reectedlightofthescholarly/scientificstatusofmethodsappro-
priatedfromwithout.Particularphilosophical-legalapproaches,
constructedonthebasisofsuchamethodologicalmodel,have
asaresultbeenone-sidedandone-dimensional,becausethey
havedrawnonlyfromonefieldofknowledge.Thisisthecase
with,forexample,analyticlegalphilosophy,legalrealism,socio-
logicaljurisprudence,andpsychologism.
Third,jurisprudenceisnotjustscholarship/science,butalsosi-
multaneously,tosomedegree,anautonomousscholarship/
science,whichdoesnothaveto(althoughitmay)borrowlegal
researchmethodsfromexternalsources.Forjurisprudenceis
specifictosuchadegreethatitsmethodologycannotbecom-
paredeitherwiththemethodsoftheexactsciencesorthenatu-
ralsciencesor,indeed,theothersocialsciences.Thismythofthe
methodologicalautonomyofjurisprudencewasdevelopedby
Romanjurisprudence,andthenmaintained,ononehand,bythe
historicalschool,and,ontheother,bylegalpositivism.
ThelegalmethodsanalyzedbyJerzyStelmachandBartosz
Brożek(logic,analysis,argumentation,andhermeneutics)point
toafourthpossibleposition,andonethatisperhapsmostwel-
comefromthepointofviewofthecontemporaryparadigmof
science.Foraverylongtime,thecomplexityofthephenom-
enonofthelawhasbeenseen(language,psychologicalexpe-
rience,socialfact,bearerofvalues),and,inconsequence,the
inseparabilityofvariouslevelsoflegalresearchhavealsobeen
noted(analytical,sociological,psychological,axiological).Thus,
itisamatterofconstructingamodelofjurisprudenceasscience
thatwouldbebasedonthedynamicexploitationoftheachieve-
