preserved(Fig.1).InkeepingwithMuslim
tradition,thetombswereoriented
SW-NE,thebodieslaidwithheadsfacing
theqibla.Altogethersome12tombswere
clearedwithinthetrenchlimits(Fig.2).
Typologically,theyfallintotwocategories
thathavealreadybeenrecognizedelse-
whereonthesite.3)Onetype,undoubted-
lyearlierasotherstructuresarefound
apparentlyoverlyingtombsofthiskind,
consistedofsimpleopenboxesmadeof
slabsmountedonend(nos.M251,M259,
M261).Tombsofthesecondtypewere
builtofsmalllimestoneblocksandplas-
tered(nos.M253,M258,M260,M264).
Inbothcases,slabsformedthecovering,
eitherflatorgable-roofed,ofthestonebur-
ialcysts.Thelatterusuallyaccommodated
multipleburials,rangingfromtwotofour
bodiesinasinglegrave(Fig.3).
