KrzysztofZłotkowskicametoDeirel-Bahariforthefirsttimein1993.Hewassupposedtospend
justtwomonthsthere–repairingtheelectricalequipment,theconstructionmachinesandthelight-
ingsystemintheTempleofHatshepsut.Heendedupreturningtothesiteeveryseasonforthenext
fewyearsuntilanincurableillnesspreventedhimfromparticipatingintherestorationprogramof
thePolish-Egyptianjointexpedition.
Hisunquenchableenthusiasmandatrulycreativeapproachtosolvingvarioustechnicalproblems
turnedhimintoaveritable“manofprovidence”savingthemissiononnumerousoccasions.Efficient
progressofthebuildingandpreservationworkwaslargelydependentonhim,aswasthesmoothtech-
nicalfunctioningoftheMetropolitanHouse,themission'sheadquartersatthesite.Whenever–too
often–desertconditionsturnedouttobeovertaxingformoderntechnology,Krzysztofalwaysman-
agedsomehowtoreplacethemalfunctioningmachinery.Hiskeeneyehelpedtokeepinrunningcon-
ditionallthepumpsandfeedersandcrushersthatareessentialfortheproductionofartificialstone
usedinrestoration.Thelistwouldbeverylong.
