Duringaccompanyingarchaeologicalex-
plorationprecedingtherestorationwork,it
wasascertainedthatthenorthernwallof
theauditoriumendedwithapilaster-like
projection(ca.0.70m),flankingthe
entrancetothenorthernpassageofthebath
complex.Thelowerpartofthepilasterwas
dulyrestoredtoitsoriginalshape.
BATHCOMPLEX
Thesouthernpassageofthebathswill
eventuallyformoneoftheaxesofthe
ArchaeologicalParkexhibitiontobe
createdatthesite.Therestorationworkin
thisareafocusedonthepreservationofthe
undergroundvaultedstructureusedasthe
bathservicearea.Thedismantledvaultsof
theentrancetooneofthefurnacesinthe
destrictariumwereentirelyrestoredinnew
stone.Inanotherchamber,mostprobably
usedasthesoutheasternentrancetothe
undergroundstructure,avaultpartlyre-
storedlastseasonwasnowcompleted.
Conservationmeasureswerealsounder-
takenintwoadditionalvaultsinthesame
areainordertostabilizetheircondition.
Seriouslyweatheredblockswerereplaced,
newspringingwassetinpositionand
extantarchesexpandedbyaddingmore
voussoirs.
This
procedure
not
only
protectedthestructuralintegrityofthe
vaults,butalsomadetheirdisplayvisually
moreattractive.
