MISCELLANEOUSFINDS
Afragmentofsidewallboreastamp
whichisround,hasabulgyedgeandrelief
ornamentationintheformofaLatincross
withsurfacedecoratedwithdiagonal
hatches[Fig.5:1].Tisstampwasapplied
mostprobablytoabottle.Boththevessel
andthestampweremadeofthesamelight,
transparent,greenglass.Mostprobably,the
vesselwasusedforcommercialpurposes
andmayhavecontainedholyoilorwater.
Itcanbeassignedtothe6thcentury.Glass
stampswithChristianandJewishsymbols
fromSardisareofthesamedate.Tey
wereeitherusedasmerchandisemarks,
weights,tokens,ticketsoramulets,orwere
attachedtoavessel(Saldern1980:89-90,
Pl.28:667-674).
Teseasonalsoproducedsomerec-
tangular,monochrome,bar-shapedinlays
withlongstriation,madeofopaque,
darkaubergineglass[Fig.5:2].Teir
originallocationandexactfunctionare
stilluncertain.Itseemspossiblethatthey
wereacomponentofthewalldecoration
ofthenearbybath(Kucharczyk2010a:66,
Fig.6:4-5).

WINDOWPANES
Although
many
fragments
of
glass
windowpaneshavebeenrecorded,theyare
definitelylessnumerousthanlastseason
(Kucharczyk2010a:66).Twomethodsof
makingwindowglassalreadyevidencedat
thesitehavebeenattestedagain.Teflat,
square/rectangularfragmentsexemplify
panesmadeinthecylindermethod.Panes
weremadeofgreenish-yellowishglass,
elongatedbubblesrunninginparallellines.
Mostoftheshards,whichdemonstrate
matt/glossyfaces,areperfectlyflatandjust

0.2cmthick.Terewereafewcutedges.
Somefragmentsdemonstratedrounded
depressionsonthebackandcorrespond-
ingbulgesonthefront,apparentlymade
bytoolsdrawingtheglassintoshape
[Fig.6:1,2].Mostofthewindowglassfrom
thissectorrepresentedthistype.Afewfrag-
mentsexhibitedathinlayerofadhesive
suggestingthattheyhadoncebeensetin
awoodenormarblescreen.
