Awell-preservedsideentrancewith
twodoorjambswasfoundinthesouth
wallofthebasilica[Fig.6].Itappears
tohaveremainedinuseuntiltheendofthe
occupationofthechurch.Abenchabutted
thisentranceonthewestside;itssidewas
paintedwithtwosuccessivecoatsofvivid
red.Tothewestoftheentrance,about3m
awayfromit,therewasasmallrecessinthe
wall,presumablyforastoupintheform
ofamarblebasin,afragmentofwhichwas
foundnearby.
Various
elements
of
marble
architecturaldecorwerefoundinthepart
ofthequadratumpopuli(naveandaisles)
uncoveredthisseason.Teseelements
includedcolumnfragments(piecesof
capitals,shafs,bases),paintedmoldings
thatonceconstitutedwalldecoration,
aswellaslimestonestructuralelements,
suchasthresholds,astatueconsole,etc.
